An opportunity has arisen within the manufacturing laboratory function. We are looking for an individual to join the team as a technologist, based at Derby. The role will be reporting to the Manufacturing Laboratory process specialist although the successful candidate will be expected to provide some NDT support.
JOB SPECIFICATION:
The primary responsibilities of the position are to:
•Support the process specialist in the control and development of plasma nitride and inertia welding.
•Support the NDT team to control and develop the NDT processes required to support the manufacture of shafts, compressor discs, drums, and casings
•Ensure the engineering specifications are satisfied for new part introduction and ongoing manufacture for the processes described above.
Continuous improvement, process compliance and control, trouble-shooting, detailed investigations, and non-conformance assessment are key aspects of the role.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
The successful candidate will have the ability to work well through individual initiative and in mixed discipline teams. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as liaison with interface areas (internal and external) is a vital aspect.
Applicants should have a degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science or Metallurgy or a related subject. However, candidates without such a qualification but who have significant relevant experience will also be considered. A level 3 approval in an NDT process is preferred.
Knowledge of materials, special processes, and familiarity with quality procedures is preferred.
